SLV has placements in Sri Lanka, India, and Bali helping those with mental health needs. SLV Global provides psychology students and graduates from around the world the opportunity to gain valuable, practical experience in the mental health sector whilst being immersed in a unique and exciting culture. SLV.Global is a graduate-led volunteering organisation working in Sri Lanka and Bali, Indonesia. We began in 2010 when Lucy Nightingale, a then recent Psychology graduate from the University of Manchester, joined forces with Yasintha Rathnayake, a Sri Lankan youth worker. Bali Province, Indonesia This was a four week placement held in Bali that enabled me to gain first had experience in running various workshops based around mental health. This involved planning and running the various sessions and writing up feedback reports that were sent back to the various facilities that we worked with.

Not only have I completed a further 2 placements with SLV.Global in Sri Lanka (2018 as a peer mentor - 3 months) and in Bali (2019 as a Vol. Coordinator - 3 months), but I have also acted as an ambassador for my university, gaining some extra money whilst promoting a cause I strongly align with.

This opportunity gave me the chance to learn about the different approaches and treatments for mental health issues in different cultures as well as gaining hands on experience.

It’s a place where there are limited resources and very few psychiatrists at hand to help the growing problem of SLV.Global organises placements around the world so you can gain real insights into global mental health treatments. With placements available in Sri Lanka, Bali, and India, you get practical and educational experience that not only looks amazing on your CV but will help you understand mental health in a wider range of cultural contexts. Equipped with experience and optimism, these intrepid adventurers joined forces with two incredibly insightful and dedicated Sri Lankan youth workers Mr Neil & Yasintha and together they founded SLV.Global and our Mental Health Placements were born. Recently we've extended our reach to include Bali. Shanice Morris is a psychology graduate and counsellor-in-training, born and raised in East London. She is experienced in retail as a sales associate, as a barista, and a team leader. Shanice volunteered for SLV.Global in both Sri Lanka and Bali and worked as a Gateway Assessor for Citizen's Advice.
